Accepting people as they are

This post really resonated with me this week.

For years when I was going through domestic abuse I was trying to change this person. I was convinced that I could give them a better life, help them rebuild themselves into this amazing person.

I helped the individual get a job, I helped them with money, I helped them have nice things, I helped as much as I could.

But it wasn’t good enough.

Why?

Because people do not change. Especially abusers.

It cost me 7 years, the amount of energy. So now, remember, if this sounds like you, slow down, think, stop. You are more important.
